Founded in 2012, the Gaborone Striders Runners Club (GSRC) was established by a group of friends who discovered a shared passion for running. What began as casual jogs quickly evolved into a formal club, aiming to promote fitness and foster a sense of community through running. The club has shown support for campaigns against sexual abuse, demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and community well-being.

Signature Events

One of the club’s hallmark events is the 10×10 Challenge, a ten-day endurance event where participants commit to running or walking 10 kilometers each day. This challenge has become a staple in Botswana’s running calendar, attracting participants from various backgrounds and promoting consistency and perseverance

In addition to the 10×10 Challenge, GSRC organized the inaugural Gaborone Striders City Marathon in April 2023. This marathon aimed to showcase the city’s landmarks and served as an official qualifier for prestigious events like the Comrades Ultra Marathon and the Olympics.

Community Engagement

Beyond organizing races, GSRC is actively involved in community initiatives. The club has partnered with various organizations to promote road safety and raise awareness about social issues. For instance, GSRC collaborated with the Orange Running Club in 2018 to prepare for the Orange Phikwe National Marathon, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and community spirit.

Additionally, the club has shown support for campaigns against sexual abuse, demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and community well-being.
